Half-life Files

I've been getting a few e-mails about the crap files page, so I've updated it and put on a load more cool files, both maps and some models which you can download. Hope thats ok!!

Two of them of note are the two new levels released by Valve, one called doublecross.zip (615Kb) and the other, rustmill.zip (1,983Kb). Both of these are of course very cool, rustmill.zip being very good for teamplay, here is a quote from John Guthrie.

Description
The object of Rustmill is for a team to gain control of the bunker with all the toys: MP5 Grenades, a tracking computer, and a teleporter.

The bunker requires two people to open. Within is the key to dominating the map: the tracking computer. This device shows movement throughout the rustmill (indicated by a blinking green square).

The tracking computer has another use: teleportation. Players can stand on the teleport pads in the tracking computer room and shoot at a location on the map and be teleported there. Two players can teleport at a time and appear at different locations in the destination room.

Gameplay comments
Rustmill is the most fun when teamwork and strategy are used (rather than freely roaming around with guns blazing.)

A team of four can rule the rustmill when playing different roles: A commander, a base defender, and two attackers can coordinate to clean up the enemy very successfully. The commander studies the tracking computer and relays enemy positions to the attackers. The base defender protects the commander and bunker doors so the enemy cannot infiltrate and take over, and the attackers load up on guns and teleport into the rooms of the unsuspecting enemy.

Those who do not control the bunker.. well, good luck laying siege. The other team knows where you are...

Half-life Sundance

There's going to be an independant film coming out soon, that doesn't have to do with gay cowboys eating pudding, so what else is there to make movies about? Well Half-life, uplink to be more specific. So check Cruisecontrol in about 2 days and then leave and come bak in another 2 days and you can download the clips. Here's some previews that good ol' Atomic posted:

That scientist scares me

TF2 pix

Heard from deftone that there was a pic of all the Team Fortress2 classes, and on Atomic there they all were:

New Valve Maps

I guess when you make over a hundred maps for a game, you hands keep twitching a night, so they've released two more DM maps. You should get these, because, I see a lot of Valve maps on internet servers (as well as about every other map I don't have), and you don't want to download an uncompressed map. Head over to Atomic for the links.

I've put two, (one and two) screenshots up for your delectation, nothing fantastic but hey I dont want to spoil them demo considering I spoilt the game enough for most of you!

Latency vs. Ping

Read this article on 'Latency vs. Ping' by Yahn Bernier of Valve, makes good reading.

Also here is a link to a ist of mirrors for the half-life demo, entitled Uplink.

Gabe newall - PC Gamer UK

   For those of us lucky induviduals to live in the UK, PC Gamer UK has got a whole load of Half-Life goodies to be drooled over in the March Issue, including a two page interview with Gabe Newall which is quite interesting (also rather full of suckage in parts). Here is a rather cool quote though;
Q. What about the future of Valve games? What are your hopes for Team Fortress 2 and beyond?

A. Social competition is a really big opportunity for games to have an impact. Straight-on deathmatch has probably gone about as far as it can in terms of finding an audience. Team Fortress 2 is about giving people the experiance of the brotherhood of arms. We know that watching a movie like Saving Private Ryan is incredibly compelling. So if watching this small, tightly knit group go through this crucible is powerful, how much more so can we make it by having people actually be in the experiance as a participant rather than as a spectator. If Half-Life can put people into a Stephen King novel, then Team Fortress 2 should put people into Saving Private Ryan.

Cool stuff eh? BTW, Ahem! What ever happened to TeamFortress Classic? by the end of the month... which month?

PC Gamer UK Level Design, or lack of.

PC Gamer UK also in this months issue has 6 pages of Worldcraft editing ideas/tutorials to get a few more UK created levels on the Half-Life scene. The tutorials are ok, but its nothing that you cant get on the net of course. They even have an example map, called grrrrr which is particular uninspiring. Besides, why should I be nice. This site didnt get a mention ;-)
